    Dearest Alexi,
    I am having a rough time. I am so self hating I can’t even look at myself in the mirror. There are fuckups, there are rough edges, my mom is going blind, and there’s a man who says he loves me, and wants to love me, but is held back by his past. And all the while I feel–and have felt for so much of my life–that I have no place in this world. I can’t believe how bad it’s gotten. My heart sinks at the drop of a hat.

    I realized today (dreamt a friend of mine was telling me to stop being so girl-hating) that I cannot possibly love anyone without loving myself. And with this hate, and not enough of a support system, I don’t really know what to do.

    How can I save myself from losing it all?

    dear g, i can’t stress this enough, seek out a therapist. i’ve been where you are now, hopelessly depressed even suicidal. by working with my psychiatrist i discovered i’m bipolar. through therapy, the proper medication, and alot of hard work i find ways to cope with and even enjoy my life. i’m not saying it’s been easy, it hasn’t. but, it’s so worth it. please, give yourself a chance. like chicken soup. it can’t hoit.
