BLOG » reader submission: dear alexi…

hi alexi,

i don’t know why i feel like sharing this with a random stranger, but for some reason it makes sense at 2 in the morning while i am delirious from studying:

it’s better to wake up alone than spend the night with someone who doesn’t give you everything you deserve.

this might not be especially profound or innovative, but i feel like it’s something that people need to understand. warm bodies just aren’t worth the messes they make. i’m far too sober to go in depth about the events which led this thought to transpire, but perhaps an idea to share with your readers. maybe if i’d realized this sooner, i wouldn’t be such a hot mess of a twenty two year old.

love, xxxx

  1. warm bodies just aren’t worth the messes they make.

^^This! I love the morning inspiration note.

  2. this is brilliant but i wish it was just as simple as it sounds

you need to love yourself before you can receive it in return

  3. Seems like a simple enough concept, until it’s 2 a.m. and maybe you’ve had a few tequila shots, and some boy (who you know is not worth your time) is being so sweet, and funny, and looking extra fine, and you’re pretty sure he really might love you on some level, or at least maybe some day he could, and besides going home alone is giving up on the game and is pretty much the most pathetic thing you could do, and why not just stay and have another drink? Then you wake up next to this loser, feeling like a stupid skank. Why are our lives so hard?

  4. “warm bodies just aren’t worth the messes they make”
    you said it sister!!

  5. simple. concise. & speaks the truth.
    i really like this post.

  6. @katie k
yeah, that is totally the problem. and what if you’re lonely, trying to find someone to give you an answer that you want. how do you go on waiting, waiting, and waiting, and waking up alone every single day telling yourself that you’re deserving of amazing love? hmm.

  7. I read this and i think of that well known phrase/quote/whatever you want to call it

“its better to have love & lost , than have never loved at all”

for some reason i feel this applies.

  8. Such a true, relate-able sentiment. I think/say this all the time – just wish I was better at taking my own advice.

@Katie K: “you’re pretty sure he really might love you on some level, or at least maybe some day he could” – Isn’t that the truth!

  9. i cannot believe how bang on your words are. this is something i have thought to myself for way too long. how do we find the will to get out of these situations? why the eff do we put ourselves in these situations to begin with. argh.

  10. If you’re so funny, then why are you on your own tonight?
If you’re so clever, then why are you on your own tonight?
If you’re so very entertaining, then why are you on your own tonight?
If you’re so very good looking, why do you sleep alone tonight?

    I know it’s over – the smiths
